Is your Cat Bad?I was right where you are, a few months ago. I really do love my cat, but she was destroying my house with her accidents. We have a 2 story house with a full basement, and the litter box has always been in the basement. But just recently, she started urinating on the dog mats on the main floor. These are homemade denim mats, and luckily, could be thrown in the wash. But finally, she lost control on a folding fabric chair, that had to be thrown out. She looked devastated! I thought it was because she loved to play with her toy mice while the dogs were outside, and maybe just held on to long?. I kept thinking of excuses for her. But I realized, that she had got quite heavy in the last year, and in reality, I think she just couldn't make it downstairs in time. I put another litter box on the main floor in the laundry room, and showed it to her, and the wetting stopped. It was that simple. I know, it means changing two litter boxes, but that is much easier than washing my dog mats over and over again, and throwing out chairs. Well meaning friends, said it was time for her to go, that this never gets better. But sometimes you just have to get down on the floor and think like the cat. She needs to lose weight, and while we are working on that, it was obvious that the stairs were too much for her. She has been fine ever since.
